Child Development Specialist Janel Astor is a child development specialist who conducts the in-home behavioral support program at the Center for Developing Minds (CDM). Janel's unique background provides families with an experienced child therapist who can fully assess, interpret, understand and effectively implement a child's recommended educational service plan directly with families in their home environment. In addition to her position at the CDM, Janel works as a faculty in the Early Childhood Special Education department at San Jose State University. There she teaches, as well as supervises and supports teaching students fulfilling requirements for their master teaching credentials. Janel is also the director of Children's Development Services at Abilities United (formerly known as CAR), where she has practiced for the past 13 years. She manages a team of therapists and developmental specialists at Abilities United that provide services for young children who have disabilities, medical complications or other risk factors for developmental delay. Janel also runs the Milestones preschool, a fully inclusive preschool at Abilities United that she designed, which serves children with and without special needs. Janel earned a B.A. in Child Development and an M.A. in Education, both from the San Jose State University, California.
